Join Tavis Piattoly, MS, RD, LDN, Randy Cohen, ATC, DPT, Larry Cooper, MS, LAT, ATC, and Labiba Russo for this CEU course for all athletic trainers and sports dietitians. Although this course was developed for secondary school athletic trainers, many of the same principles can be applied in collegiate and other clinical settings.
We will explore the unique challenges that high school athletes face when it comes to recovering from an injury. Athletes primarily struggle with understanding the significance of nutrition and its role in the recovery process from an injury. This course will provide practical strategies on how to implement a comprehensive nutrition and supplement program to enhance injury management and facilitate recovery.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the energy needs during the stress response of an injury.
- Describe the nutritional needs of injured athletes based on the type of injury.
- Discuss nutritional practices by high school athletes that increase inflammation and delay the recovery response.
- Discuss evidence-based dietary supplements for the injured athlete that can improve healing and recovery and reduce inflammation.
